Transcendentalists 2021

Like Shakespeare 2020, this group will encourage readings of Transcendental literature. Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Margaret Fuller, Bronson (& Louisa May) Alcott are just some of the works we’ll feature.

Additionally, we’ll expand the context of the period (the 1830s-1860s) including writings of Abolitionists and more obscure friends & distant connections to the Concord circle, including William Lloyd Garrison, Ellery Channing, Grimke Sisters, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and yes, even Emily Dickinson!
